Amersham is a civil parish and market town in Buckinghamshire, England. It is located 27 miles northwest of London, 32 miles southeast of Oxford and 19 miles southwest of Luton. The postcodes for the town of Amersham are HP6 and HP7 and the town has a population of approximately 18,000.

Amersham dates back to pre-Anglo-Saxon times when it was called Egmondesham. In the Domesday Book of 1086, it is mentioned under the name of Elmondesham and as the property of Geoffrey de Mandeville, who was granted the town by William the Conqueror. He was furthermore granted a market charter in 1200 which allowed for a weekly market and a yearly fair to be held in the town. During the Reformation seven dissenters, six men and one woman were burned at the stake in Amersham.  In 1931, there was a memorial built in their honour.  With the arrival of the Metropolitan line in 1892, the town’s growth accelerated. Economically, the town started off as a provider of grain to London’s merchants and later developed a striving brewing industry.

Furthermore, the town is home to the Amersham Swimming Club, Amersham Town FC, Amersham and Chiltern Rugby Football Club, Amersham and Chalfort Hockey Club and the Chiltern Harriers Athletics Club. The largest leisure centre in Amersham is called Chilton Pools with three swimming pools, an indoor climbing wall and a large facility gym.
