EC3 is also served by a comprehensive network of buses and can also be accessed rather uniquely by the River Service which docks at Tower Millennium Pier just next to the Tower of London and only a 5 minute walk from Tower Hill Underground Station.
The landmarks and attractions of London EC3 include: The Tower of London, parts of the London Metropolitan University, Tower 42 (formerly the NatWest Tower), Swiss Re Gherkin Tower, Leadenhall Market, the old Billingsgate Market, Pudding Lane, the site of the start of the Great Fire of London in 1666, as well as the Monument built by Wren to commemorate the Great Fire. EC3 also is home to the only surviving timber framed structure in the City, the Hoop and Grapes Pub on Aldgate High Street, where the Great Fire stopped just meters before this building. Parts of the original London City Wall can be found near Tower Hill Station.
London EC3 is predominantly a commercial area with much new build and development. The area is dominated by the City of London and many of its financial institutions including Lloyds of London as well as the many professional firms located within the area.
