Besides the four Macclesfield Silk Museums, the town is home to Macclesfield Amateur Dramatic Society, three art galleries, a cinema and the band Silk Brass.  Gawsworth Hall holds an annual Shakespeare festival amongst numerous other arts and music events throughout the year.  The residents of Macclesfield were found to be the third most active in sports and other fitness activities in the UK by Sport England.  The town has a professional football club, Macclesfield Town, playing in League Two as well as a cycling club, the Macclesfield Wheelers.
