Office space in central London is being used by the city of Liverpool in an attempt to draw fresh investment to Merseyside. The north-west location has launched a new business embassy, based in New Broad Street near Liverpool Street, which is thought to be the first of its kind in the capital.
It will be run, for an initial period of three months, as a joint venture between Liverpool City Council and private companies based in the city.
"Some people have called it a gimmick, but there is a very serious intention here," city council leader Joe Anderson told the Guardian.
"We want to show the UK and foreign investors that Liverpool has big ambitions and big opportunities," he added.
The decision to rent office offices in London for the embassy follows Liverpool's pavilion at the 2010 World Expo in Shanghai, where it was the only British city to have an individual presence.
It is the latest initiative in Liverpool's One Plan, a new vision and strategy that brings together private and public sector expertise to sell the city.
