BBC seeks new office space in Bristol

More efficient office space is desired by the BBC in Bristol

Article posted: 04 Mar 2011
The BBC is on the hunt for new office space in Bristol after confirming it intends to leave its current base in the city.

A number of listed buildings in Clifton provide a home for the corporation at the moment, but it believes these are too costly to maintain.

As a result, the broadcaster is working with local property experts to find suitable office space in Bristol from which to operate.

Spokesperson Peter Musgrove said the BBC is already looking at a large number of potential premises in the south-west city.

"The current site is no longer fit for purpose and expensive to maintain - a purpose-built building could offer a number of savings," he confirmed.

Mr Musgrove noted efficiency could be increased if it were to rent offices in Bristol with an open-plan layout, as these would allow more to be made of available floor space.

According to the Bristol Evening Post, about 15 possible sites have been earmarked so far, including the former Harveys warehouse in Hengrove.
