London Office space nears completion at No 1 Kingsway

Prominent landmark property features 105,000 sq ft of new sustainable office space

Article posted: 08 Mar 2011

New outstanding sustainable office space in Midtown, London, is soon to complete together with a new restaurant and residential apartments at No.1 Kingsway, the prominent corner of Kingsway, Aldwych and Drury Lane in the Strand Conservation Area within the City of Westminster.

Developed from concept stage through to construction on site by Sidell Gibson Architects, for UK & European Investments, the new mixed-use development has been totally re-built behind the original Portland Stone façade, which was originally designed by Trehearne & Norman after the First World War and built in 1920.

The scheme is among only a handful of new developments of offices in the West End of London that combines a truly mixed-use approach. In addition to 105,000 sq ft of brand new office space, the site incorporates seven new residential apartments occupying the top two floors and a new European-style brasserie, a sister restaurant to the iconic Wolseley restaurant in Piccadilly, covering over 13,000 sq ft on the ground floor, which is planned to open late autumn 2011. The apartments will enjoy magnificent views across London towards Canary Wharf to the east and the London Eye and the Houses of Parliament to the west.

The building has been designed to achieve an ‘Excellent’ BREEAM rating and an EPC Rating of A. This guarantees excellent environmental and sustainable design throughout the development process leading to both business and environmental cost savings.

ISG is the main contractor and the project is due to complete in June 2011.
