Amazon expands offices at Waverleygate

Online retailing giant takes additional office space at Highcross' Edinburgh scheme

Article posted: 28 May 2011

Highcross has let 58,000 sq ft of office space in Edinburgh city centre at its Waverleygate office building to Amazon, on a ten-year lease.

This is the largest single letting at Waverleygate since Highcross acquired the landmark office building a year ago, and follows a further 10,000 sq ft of office accommodation let to Amazon earlier this year.

The 207,000 sq ft Grade A office building is located in the heart of the city centre, close to Waverley mainline station. During the last twelve months, Highcross has completed a major refurbishment of the building’s atrium, reception and roof garden, and current occupiers include NHS Lothian, H&M, Balfour Beatty, Microsoft, EY&CO and Creative Scotland.

Mark Evans, head of Highcross’ Scotland office, comments: “This latest significant letting to Amazon means that more than 150,000 sq ft is now occupied at the building, compared with 12,000 sq ft at the beginning of 2010. This strong performance reflects the building’s city centre location, high quality specification and our flexible, value for money lettings approach.”

Highcross has also received significant interest in the remaining office space at Waverleygate, with suites from 3,000 to 30,000 sq ft currently available.

Montagu Evans and CB Richard Ellis are joint letting agents at Waverleygate. Amazon was represented by Cushman & Wakefield.
