Leading supermarket Asda is expanding its head office operation with the opening of a second office in Leeds at Holbeck Urban Village. The retail giant has signed up for 38,000 sq ft of office space over two floors at The Mint building, situated on Sweet Street in the southern corner of the urban village. The Mint offers seven floors of Grade A office space at the Leeds scheme, comprising 115,000 sq ft of BREEAM Excellent accommodation.
Holbeck Urban Village is an ongoing regeneration scheme linking Leeds city centre to the surrounding communities of Beeston, Beeston Hill and Holbeck. The vision is to create a sustainable community with offices and apartments together with high quality public open spaces. The project is a long term commitment from leeds City Council and Yorkshire Forward to establish a new creative quarter for the city focused on new media and digital technologies that will strengthen Leeds as a regional business centre.
The new office will house around 250 Asda employees splitting the head office operation across two city centre locations, the other of which is on Great Wilson Street.
Commenting on the move Chief executive Andy Clarke said: “We are proud to be a Leeds business – born and bred and this expansion of our space is further evidence of our commitment to the city. When Asda first moved into Holbeck in 1988, we were one of the only big businesses at this side of town. It has been fantastic to see how the area has flourished over the past 20 years and I hope our expansion in the area will demonstrate to other companies the great facilities on offer here.”
