In support of Green Office Week (May 9-13th) Avanta is introducing measures to further reduce waste, energy consumption and emissions from its 18 business centres providing serviced offices in Central and West London, Reading and Edinburgh.
“As of March 2011 we’ve managed to recycle almost 73% of the waste produced at our serviced offices in London and this exceeds the target we set ourselves,” comments David Kinnaird, Avanta’s Director of Operations. “We’ve even introduced schemes to recycle everything from used printer cartridges through to electrical equipment such as old printers and computer monitors.
“For the year ending March 2011 we have also successfully saved 330,717 kg of CO2 emissions from entering the atmosphere through our recycling efforts, but we plan to reduce our carbon footprint even further during this year and to help create a sustainability society.”
Avanta business centres now have recycling points at all refreshment stations and breakout areas and have installed automatic lights in client offices and the public areas in a number of their locations to further reduce consumption of electricity. In addition, Avanta’s recycling supplier has also provided clients with a secure service for shredded paper.
“Moving forward, we are actively introducing office space clients to methods that they can employ to help reduce each centre’s carbon footprint. For instance, replacing old-style monitors with LCD flat screens will reduce energy consumptions and even actions such as adjusting computers to go into sleep mode when inactive; shutting down PCs, monitors and printers each night and turning off appliances rather than leaving them in stand-by mode all helps to reduce energy consumption.”
