Award winning engineers sign up for King’s Cross offices

Hoare Lea set to relocate to Argent’s Western Transit Shed development

Article posted: 21 Nov 2011

Hoare Lea, the award winning engineering firm, has agreed a 15 year lease with King’s Cross Central Limited Partnership that will see the firm relocate its flagship London office to new office space in King’s Cross in autumn 2012. The move will enable Hoare Lea to develop its London operation, moving from 14,000 sq ft premises into a distinctive 22,000 sq ft space in the Western Transit Shed, King’s Cross.

The consulting engineering company is currently working closely with the developer, Argent, on details of the design for the new building, ensuring that its 165 staff can maximise all of the possible benefits of the move.

The Western Transit Shed combines heritage and contemporary design to provide a functional and dynamic workspace at the heart of the 67 acre King’s Cross development, adjoining the Granary Complex, the new home of the University of the Arts London. Hoare Lea is one of three organisations that have already signed up for office space at King’s Cross and will be amongst the first office workers to move in and will do so during the year in which the firm celebrates its 150th anniversary.

Initial construction work has already started on the building and is scheduled to be completed in time for the move at the end of 2012.

Speaking on the move, Miles Freeman, Managing Partner, London office, said: “King’s Cross met all of the aspirations we set at the start of our search for new premises, especially in terms of quality of design and commitment to sustainability, both of which are extremely important to us at Hoare Lea. King’s Cross is a superb development, with a well-developed sense of place, in a central, incredibly well connected location.”

Hoare Lea will relocate from existing office space on Tottenham Court Road. It also has offices in Birmingham, Bristol, Cambridge, Cardiff, Isle of Man, Leeds, Manchester, Oxford, Plymouth and Poole.
