Bermondsey Square received the title of best new public space at this year's London Planning Awards. The development, which contains apartments and office space in south-east London, saw off competition from Waterside Gardens in Crayford and Braham Street Park.
Oxford Circus, with its new diagonal crossings and improvements, also made the shortlist for the event at City Hall.
Sir Simon Milton, deputy mayor of London, said Bermondsey Square "integrates successfully public and privately managed space and provides a flexible arena for everyday activities and special events".
The development, which was built on a previously abandoned site near Tower Bridge, hosts a weekly antiques market every Friday.
For companies seeking to rent offices in London, the square offers Grade A units ranging in size from 1,000 sq ft to 19,675 sq ft.
Floors four and five of the building are now fully occupied, but space is still available to let on the remaining three levels.
Bermondsey Square is also home to 76 new apartments and a hotel.
