Offices in the Thames Valley, South West and South Wales have been recognised for excellence in the British Council for Offices' annual regional Awards, at a prestigious ceremony that took place recently at the At-Bristol museum in Bristol.
This year’s entries demonstrated a genuine commitment to environmentally friendly and energy efficient design. Winning the category for best Commercial Workplace was One Glass Wharf, which comprises 216,172 sq ft of Grade A office space in Bristol.
The building was commended by the judges for making use of a river adjacent to the building for rejecting heat from the building cooling plant. The designers Stride Treglown were also praised for making use of magnetic levitation compressors to further increase energy efficiency. Overall this modern, high quality building forms an excellent addition to an area of urban regeneration in Bristol.
Mark Alker Stone, Architect/Director at aww and BCO Judging Chair for the South West of England, Thames Valley and South Wales said: “Sustainability is of growing importance to architects, develops and occupiers, and this year’s award winners have clearly placed environmental design at the heart of their conceptualisation, producing a high quality of building design which suits the needs of occupiers. The standard of entries this year was outstanding, with each award hotly contested and we’ve ended up with five very worthy award winners. I congratulate them all and wish them each the very best of luck at the National Awards in October.”
Other awards went to offices in Reading, Salisbury, Wallingford and Cardiff.
