Pfizer has appointed CB Richard Ellis to market its R&D campus in Sandwich, a 325 acre site, comprising approximately 3m sq ft of built laboratory and office space in the Kent countryside.
In addition to targeting users for existing laboratory and office buildings, CBRE will also be responsible for marketing substantial buildings and facilities such as a high bay warehouse, waste processing and incineration complexes, sports and leisure facilities as well as development land.
CBRE will work closely with local and regional authorities in Kent, such as Locate in Kent, who are also actively working with Pfizer to secure future use for the Sandwich site, to attract businesses and investment.
Nick Compton, Senior Director in the Corporate Strategies team at CBRE said: “We are delighted to be working with Pfizer and to be playing a key role in delivering a future for this exceptional site. Given the facilities that are already in place, we hope the Sandwich Campus remains a centre for R&D. However, given the diversity of buildings facilities and land at the site, we expect to attract occupiers from a range of industries and from the investment and development sectors.”
Pfizer announced its intention to exit the site in February 2011, which led to concern about redundancies among its 2400 staff, with Business Secretary Vince Cable, calling the decision “extremely disappointing.”
