Multi-million pound development will create new office space and new jobs in York

According to today’s Yorkshire Post a famous chocolate factory site in York is set for a multi-million pound make-over with approval for the scheme expected this week from York Council's planning committee.

 

The scheme which will be developed on part of the Nestlé site will the construction of new homes, shops and offices north of York city centre.

 

£30m has already been invested in creating new facilities on the site which makes Kit Kats, Aeros, Polos, Milky Bars and Yorkies. The new development will allow Nestlé to further invest in its York operation thereby helping to secure the future of its 1,800 employees.


The southern half of the site will be redeveloped with some of the existing buildings converted into flats, along with student accommodation. There are also plans for houses and a care facility for the elderly.

 

In addition, around 108,000 sq ft office space is planned together with 10,000 sq ft of retail.

 

Nestlé is awaiting planning permission before seeking a developer to purchase the land and take on the project.
