Planning permission approved for £250m Edinburgh scheme
Mixed-use development in financial district will deliver 510,000 sq ft of office space

According to today’s Irish Times, Cork-based Tiger Developments has been granted full planning permission for a £250m mixed-use scheme which will deliver 510,000 sq ft of new office space in Edinburgh’s financial district.
The four-acre site was acquired in 2006 for £40m and Tiger’s Chairman Michael O’Flynn is now seeking funding in the hope that he can begin construction in 2012.
The office-led scheme close to Edinburgh’s second busiest train station, Haymarket, will also comprise 58,000 sq ft of retail and leisure space in addition to a basement car park and a 245-bedroom hotel, which has been pre-let to Travelodge. An operator for the 381 space car park has also been secured and agents have been appointed to pursue other tenants.
Speaking to The Irish Times about the development Mr O’Flynn said: “Achieving consent for a scheme of this nature in Edinburgh is a real achievement and good news for all concerned. We have a number of parties who are keen to co-fund this development. Given the sustained tourism, retail and office demand, we are aiming to start on site in 2012.”
