Derby Cathedral Quarter office developments awarded council funding
Four office schemes will receive cash injection from £10m regeneration fund

Four planned developments of office space in Derby, in the city’s Cathedral Quarter have been allocated funding under Derby City Council’s £10m regeneration fund – Friar Gate Square, in Agard Street, Central Square in Cathedral Road (pictured), a development in St Mary’s Gate and the former magistrates’ court in Full Street.
Building work on the first scheme, Lowbridge's Friar Gate Square, will start next month and should be completed within a year, the other projects will also start in 2011.
The £10m regeneration fund was created by Derby City Council in November last year to support the delivery of new high quality commercial development to continue the progress made in establishing Derby as a 21st century investment location. The Council has been seeking to identify projects which will deliver high quality employment space and employment opportunities, where regeneration funding can be invested to bring forward appropriate schemes which may otherwise be unable to proceed.
The Cathedal Quarter is an established business destination with a wide range of highly-regarded and long-established local, regional and national firms occupying office space in the Derby city centre location. Recently the Quarter has become a thriving hub for the city’s creative industries with many firms mow based at the Friar Gate Studios.
Commenting on the funding, Martin Langsdale, chair of the Cathedral Quarter management Group, said; "This is fantastic news on all fronts. It raises the profile and puts the Cathedral Quarter on the radar of the commercial property industry as an area to invest.”
