Skanska has been awarded a construction project to deliver new office space in the City of London, EC3 at 6 Bevis Marks. The £50m contract will see the creation of a 16-storey commercial building, totalling 230,000 sq ft, with construction due to start immediately and completion planned for autumn of 2013.
The building has a target to achieve BREEAM ‘Excellent’ rating with elements such as combined heat and power generation, rainwater harvesting systems, energy saving lighting systems, condensing boilers, Electronically Commutated motors on fan coils and energy reclaim systems. The property is set to achieve current energy saving requirements by 40% and will re-use 50% of the existing below-ground structure.
The new office scheme replaces an outdated building and reconnects the existing streets, passages and outdoor spaces. It more than doubles the public space, enhancing the setting of a number of important buildings, including Lord Foster’s Swiss Re, Sir Edwin Cooper’s Baltic Exchange and H.P. Berlarge’s Holland House.
A series of stepped volumes create 10,000 sq ft of private outdoor roof terraces that enjoy views of Swiss Re and the City skyline.
