ISG awarded £5.4m contract to upgrade Network Rail offices

Construction firm will refurbish office space at George Stephenson House

As part of ISG’s recent appointment to Network Rail’s three year national property framework programme, the construction firm has been awarded a £5.4m contract to upgrade and refurbish office space in York at George Stephenson House.

The contractor will comprehensively strip out and reconfigure the five-storey building in a phased programme of works, with the building remaining in partial occupation throughout the duration of the project.

The building's main entrance will be improved with the removal of a 1^st-floor link bridge and the addition of planar glazing to create a light and spacious atrium. A new feature stainless steel staircase will be installed, whilst ground floor catering and dining facilities will be replaced and a number of meeting rooms created.

Commercial office accommodation across the upper four floors will be remodelled to provide a majority open plan layout, with a number of break-out areas and tea points also formed. The project is due to commence early February and is scheduled for completion towards the end of the year.

ISG’s involvement with the Network Rail programme, to enhance operational efficiencies and further improve working environments, is across both fit out and construction categories. The rail operator has instigated the framework as part of a strategic review of its property portfolio.

Craig Tatton, ISG’s UK Construction MD, commented: “A key factor in our success with Network Rail was our experience as a framework partner with Severn Trent Water. There are a great many similarities between these two organisations in terms of their overall property portfolios and Network Rail identified the value of appointing a contractor with sector specific expertise.”
