BAM appointed to deliver new corporate headquarters

Imperial Tobacco has appointed BAM Construction to deliver the company’s new corporate headquarters with the development of multi-million pound bespoke office space in Bristol.

Sited on Winterstoke Road on land owned by Imperial Tobacco, adjacent to an operational rail line and close to other businesses, the new building will replace existing factory units, and will achieve a BREEAM Excellent rating. It will utilise a wide range of natural materials across its 83,000 plus sq ft.

The project becomes the latest corporate headquarters that BAM has been appointed to deliver. An FTSE 100 company, Imperial Tobacco joins Severn Trent Water plc, BAE Systems, Network Rail, and the Co-Operative Group among those clients for whom the contractor is delivering, or has recently delivered signature buildings. Currently under construction, the Co-op’s new HQ will deliver 16 floors of futuristic office space in Manchester as well as developing and regenerating the Group’s 20-acre site, located at the city’s Northern Gateway.

Nick Goff, Construction Director for BAM, said: “The market in the South West is extremely competitive and Imperial Tobacco has impressive plans for its new headquarters. Those two factors emphasise the significance of this success to us at BAM.”

For Imperial Tobacco, Ken Hill, Special Projects Director said: “We are delighted that BAM have been selected to join the great team that will deliver a modern head office that will support the demands of our growing international business, at one South Bristol location.”

Work on the project has commenced with the demolition of existing factory units and construction work for the headquarters will commence in earnest in September.
