The Daily Express newspaper group is set to move its print works to Luton and could also relocate some editorial staff there, according to a local MP.

Gavin Shuker, Labour MP for Luton South, told BBC News that about 450 people will be employed at the Bedfordshire town's new printing press for Express Newspapers.

He claimed the group has received planning permission for the print works and will consider moving members of its editorial staff from London to office space in Luton.

"We are very happy to have a national newspaper printed in Luton," Mr Shuker told the news provider.

However, the BBC noted that Express Newspapers is yet to comment on the move.

Its current home at office space in London is located at Number 10 Lower Thames Street, EC3R 6EN.

The group is owned by London-born businessman Richard Desmond, who also controls OK! magazine and the Daily Star through his publishing company Northern & Shell.
