Commercial property experts have predicted a period of continued prosperity for providers of office space in Manchester this year.

Simon Reynolds, a partner at surveying firm GVA, told the Manchester Evening News that the economic gap between the north-west's large cities and other towns in the region could grow during 2011.

"Both Liverpool and Manchester will have the only new office schemes committed or available, which will continue to attract new business," he commented.

Mr Reynolds added that the completed MediaCityUK complex, which is due to receive many more occupants this year, will "make a major difference to Salford Quays and its environs".

Recent research from property consultancy Lambert Smith Hampton revealed that strong demand among firms looking to rent offices in Manchester meant the city's commercial property market enjoyed a successful 2010.

Manchester boasts an average annual city centre office take-up of 930,000 sq ft, beating the figures posted by rival locations such as Edinburgh (710,000 sq ft) and Bristol (680,000 sq ft).

Last month, ITV announced that it will move its Manchester base to MediaCityUK in 2012 after agreeing terms with Peel Media.
