Mercer, a leading global provider of employee benefiting consulting, outsourcing and investment services, is the latest corporate occupier to secure office space in Glasgow at HFD Group’s g1 development in George Square. The firm have signed a lease to occupy 34,000 sq ft across the 2nd, 3rd and 9th floors.
Steven Blackie, Mercer’s business leader in Scotland, explained “This is an exciting time of development for us in Scotland as we particularly plan for expansion of our investment, risk management outsourcing and consulting businesses. The move demonstrates our continued commitment to growth and investment in Scotland.
"One of the key benefits is to ensure that Mercer's 200 employees from nearby Blythswood Square and Alhambra House offices can come together under one roof and work even more closely as team, whilst also allowing efficiency gains from operating on a single site.”
Mercer’s relocation brings the building to 94% let within 10 months of opening, a result which comes as no surprise to the HFD’s Development Director, Stephen Lewis. “From the outset, we were convinced that we were setting new standards in office accommodation, which ultimately would attract the highest calibre of occupiers. The quality of the occupiers securing space in the building is affirmation of the reality of that belief, and the product delivered.
“G1 not only sets the standard for city centre working environments, but has also made a substantial, positive contribution to re-activating the southern corner of Glasgow’s most prominent civic space, George Square.”
The announcement comes as other g1 occupiers Ernst & Young and Maclay Murray Spens both complete work on their new offices within the building.
