London's 'Midtown' to be revived as business district

'Midtown' part of London to become more attractive to businesses thanks to new campaign

Plans to relaunch an overlooked area of the capital known as 'Midtown' could boost demand for office space in Central London.

Located between the City and the West End, the district is set to receive more than £1 billion in public and private investment for regeneration schemes over the next four years, the Financial Times reports.

Business improvement organisation Inmidtown will promote the area as an attractive commercial location to rival the capital's financial district and the entertainment hub to the west.

Tass Mavrogordato, chief executive of Inmidtown, said the investment will return the area "to its glory days of the Victorian era, when it was London's top business destination".

The Midtown district includes parts of Holborn, Bloomsbury and St Giles. By 2015 it will have two Crossrail stations, at Tottenham Court Road and Farringdon.

New buildings in the area include Central St Giles, a mixed-use development designed by Renzo Piano which offers 408,000 sq ft of space for companies looking to rent offices in London.
