The Original Factory Shop doubles size of its head office following record Christmas sales

According to today’s Burnley Citizen, a successful Burnley-based national retailer is set to double the size of its head office and expand its business with the opening of 400 new stores across the UK.

After reporting record Christmas sales, The Original Factory Shop is amid plans to add 100,000 sq ft to its 140,000 sq ft warehouse as well as expanding its office space at a Burnley business park.

The extreme weather before Christmas saw demand for outdoor clothing and wellies boost sales to record levels for the firm. It recorded its highest-ever sales in a day on the 23rd of December, only to go on to break that record the next day by a further 8%.

With 160 stores nationwide, The Original Factory Shop sold an average of one pair of wellies every nine seconds over the Christmas period, boosting sales by 23% over the six weeks to December 26 compared to the same period in 2009.

The successful retailer is owned by private equity group Duke Street which is based at offices in Central London.
