Swedish utility firm Vattenfall will seek to create a new UK headquarters with office space in London.

The company is working on plans to develop a major offshore wind farm in the North Sea and would like to set up a new base in the capital to support its British operations.

Speaking to Reuters, chief executive Oystein Loseth said the UK renewable energy market represents "possibility for growth, especially on the wind side" for Vattenfall.

"That's why we are trying to find a place for a new office in London where we can sit all together," he told the news agency.

The firm currently uses small premises in London, as well as office space in Edinburgh and Hexham, Northumberland.

Mr Loseth said construction work on the North Sea wind farm, which could generate up to 7,200 megawatts of power, is not expected to begin until at least 2015.

Vattenfall is the fifth largest generator of electricity in Europe and employs approximately 42,000 people.
