According to today’s Southend Standard, Southend Council has secured £2.6m of funding from the East of England Development Agency to create new office space in the Essex town.
Regeneration plans involving the transformation of the Progress Road Industrial Estate, will see the creation of new offices and workshops to get the project off the ground.
The council is seeking a £400,000 of investment to prepare the land along Brunel Road for £3m of business units, with the aim of ultimately creating a hi-tech business park.
Alan Richards, the council’s group manager for asset management commented: “The council appointed a design team, which will be working to submit a planning application for the redevelopment. The council will be working closely with the team and with the remaining occupiers of the site to secure planning consent, with construction hopefully taking place in 2012.”
