A member of Leeds City Council has voiced support for plans to convert one of the city's historic factories into a new office scheme.Developer Rushbond Group wants to refurbish the Alf Cooke printing works, a Grade II listed building from the Victorian era that features a prominent clock tower.
Speaking to the Yorkshire Post, Labour councillor Elizabeth Nash said she believes it would be a positive move to repurpose the structure as new office space in Leeds.
She described the former printworks as one of the most beautiful buildings in the city.
"I am delighted that something is going to be done with it because when buildings are empty they begin to deteriorate," Ms Nash explained.
The local authority's city centre plans panel agreed that planning approval can be granted once a legal agreement covering aspects of the development has been signed.
According to an earlier report from the newspaper, Rushbond hopes to construct 12 commercial units in eight three-storey blocks on the Alf Cooke site.
