Plans to redevelop part of the seafront in Southend could lead to new office space in Essex.A proposal to create new apartments, retail units and offices on a site between Marine Parade, Southchurch Avenue and Pleasant Road has been put forward by the Inner London Group, the Essex Echo reports.
The scheme, which also includes restaurants and leisure facilities, could further revitalise the resort's Golden Mile in tandem with the £7 million City Beach development.
Southend Borough Council leader Nigel Holdcroft welcomed the plans and said the local authority will support the project if it proves to be viable.
"We are spending a lot of money on the City Beach project. Frankly we need some investment in that particular site," he told the newspaper.
"I think people will be keen to see the Golden Mile thriving again."
According to the Inner London Group's blueprint, a total of 6,000 square metres would be dedicated to commercial use.
The City Beach project will see a series of LED lighting towers erected on the seafront once complete.
