The ITV studio building on Quay Street in Manchester could be converted into a new office development when the broadcaster relocates to its new home at MediaCityUK.HOW Planning has been brought in to create a masterplan for the 24-acre site, which will become vacant once ITV moves its Granada Studios operations to the new complex in Salford Quays.
The company must now decide what to do with its Quay Street property and could be in line for a £60 million payday if the site is redeveloped and sold, the Manchester Evening News reports.
Speaking to the newspaper, senior partner at HOW Gary Halman said the site would be suitable for creating both new residential properties and office space in Manchester.
"Those parts of the site that front Quay Street will be close to the high-density office developments of the city centre, which might make them more appropriate for new office buildings," he added.
ITV confirmed that its Manchester operation will move to MediaCityUK last week, with the broadcaster due to take up residence in offices at the complex in 2012.
