More office space permitted at Birmingham's Arena Central

Arena Central in Birmingham is set to offer more new office space following a planning revision

Article posted: 14 Jan 2011
The developers behind the Arena Central project have received permission to create an additional 300,000 sq ft of office space in Birmingham.

Planning consent for the £400 million mixed-use scheme has been amended to allow for a maximum of 800,000 sq ft to be built by Arena Central Developments, up from the original 500,000 sq ft.

The firm responsible for the development, which will cover a prime 7.6-acre site in the city centre, is a joint venture between Miller Developments and Bridgehouse Capital.

Miller director Jonathan Wallis claimed the additional office space will allow for the creation of 2,000 office-based jobs at the site.

"Arena Central is already extremely well placed to capture any bespoke pre-let enquiries," commented Martin Guest of CBRE Birmingham, which is joint letting agent for the scheme alongside GVA.

He said the development's increased office capacity "will further enhance its appeal, making it the city centre's largest consented, deliverable office scheme".

Work is now complete on the initial demolition phase at the site, which is located opposite the ICC conference venue.
