Offices in the Thames Valley, South West and South Wales have been recognised for excellence in the British Council for Offices' annual regional Awards, at a prestigious ceremony that took place recently at the At-Bristol museum in Bristol.

Winning the category for best Corporate Workplace was the new headquarter offices in Oxfordshire of consultancy and research organisation HR Wallingford, an independent company providing world-leading analysis, advice and support in engineering and environmental hydraulics, and in the management of water and the water environment.

Kestrel House won the award for its innovative environmental design which included solar water heating and rainwater harvesting. The building, which achieved a BREEAM “Excellent” rating, also makes use of a dedicated borehole on the site in order to cool the building in an energy efficient manner.

Commenting on the award, Chief Executive Officer of HR Wallingford Group, John Ormston said: “We commissioned Kestrel House as our headquarters in Oxfordshire as part of a master plan to develop a high technology and environmentally focused business park in Wallingford.

“Our previous accommodation was spread across a number of older buildings on the site. Kestrel House offered us the opportunity to move into a purpose built contemporary, open plan, single office facility large enough to accommodate all our staff and provide us with enough space to grow.”

Other awards went to offices in Bristol, Salisbury, Reading, and Cardiff.
