Mixed-use regeneration scheme will deliver retail leisure, residential & office space

A detailed planning application for the first phase of a new town centre for Longbridge was recently submitted to Birmingham City Council.

Part of a £1bn regeneration project, the £70m mixed-use scheme has been designed by Holder Mathias Architects on behalf of St. Modwen and Advantage West Midlands, and will establish a new heart for the local community including new shops and restaurants, a food-store, a hotel, apartments and commercial offices in the West Midlands town, together with two acres of public open space.

Steve Hill, director at Holder Mathias, said: “Our scheme proposals have sought to help continue the regeneration of this area through the construction of a vibrant new town centre, creating what we hope will be many more future development opportunities and renewed economic growth for Longbridge.

“I have been very impressed by St. Modwen’s commitment to this development, particularly during the current difficult economic climate, which has resulted in many large scale construction projects being put on hold across the UK. St. Modwen bravely continues to buck the trend at Longbridge, and we welcome the opportunity to fulfil their impressive ambitions.”

Bill Oliver, chief executive of St. Modwen, said; “The submission of a planning application for the new town centre at Longbridge is a major milestone in the evolution of this project. It underlines our expertise in taking on large scale regeneration projects and provides a clear indication that 2011 will be one of the most active years yet for this important scheme.”
