Sustainability success for Carillion in industry green awards

Leading support services and construction company Carillion is celebrating after topping its sector and gaining Platinum status in the prestigious Business in the Community Corporate Responsibility Index as well as coming in the top ten in the Sunday Times Best Green Companies awards.

The BiTC Corporate Responsibility Index is the UK’s leading voluntary benchmark of Corporate Responsibility which compares, celebrates and communicates the social and environment performance of companies.

The Sunday Times Best Green Companies awards recognise companies at the cutting edge of improving corporate environmental performance and this year Carillion achieved tenth place overall and fourth in its category (Bigger Companies with High Environmental Impact). Carillion is one of only 15 companies to remain in the Best Green Companies top 60 list since it started four years ago.

Recent projects include providing consultancy to help deliver office space in Cardiff at the £40.9m National Assembly building. Work was successfully completed on the project in 2005, and the Assembly Building has since achieved BREEAM ‘excellent’ status.

At Farnborough Business Park Carillion was selected as the partnering contractor for the £38m scheme comprising office space in Farnborough, Hampshire. The project involved the construction of two office blocks and site infrastructure.

In the North West Carillion worked closely with Argent Estates and its architects and engineers to create a high quality development that incorporates 152,000 sq ft of prime office space in Manchester at One Piccadilly Gardens. The confined city centre location created substantial challenges in terms of coordination and access, and a significant amount of pre-fabrication was required.

Currently Carillion is playing a key role in the development of office space in Sheffield at a major headquarters office development, The Square in Castlegate. Located at the principal gateway to Sheffield city centre, The Square is a prime location for businesses, offering easy access to the motorway network, public transport and the amenities of Sheffield city centre.
