Derwent London’s The Angel Building, designed by Allford Hall Monaghan Morris Ltd, has scooped a prestigious award from The Royal Institute of British Architects at the 2011 RIBA Awards for architectural excellence.

Launched in October last year, The Angel Building is Derwent London’s largest redevelopment to date, totalling 263,000 sq ft of office space in Clerkenwell, EC1.

RIBA Awards are given for buildings that have high architectural standards and make a substantial contribution to the local environment. Other awards in the Commercial and Industrial category went to offices in Fitzrovia, the City of London and Hackney.

This is the second award in a month for The Angel Building which was also honoured by the British Council of Offices, winning the award for best Refurbished/Recycled Workplace for its innovative and distinctive transformation of a tired, lumbering early 1980s building into a quality office scheme that maximises light and space. The building incorporates an impressive roof terrace and lush street level greenery.
