BCO Workplace Award for Yell at One Reading Central

Reading offices recognised for best fit out of a workplace in BCO South West, Thames Valley & South Wales Regional Awards 2011

Offices in the South West, Thames Valley and South Wales have been recognised for excellence in the British Council for Offices' annual regional Awards, at a prestigious ceremony that took place recently at the At-Bristol museum in Bristol.

Winning the category for best Fit Out of a Workplace was Yell at One Reading Central for its inspiring fit-out of over 183,000 sq ft of office space which was completed against the odds, in the depths of the recession. The building makes use of artwork, bright colours and modern interior design to create a vibrant and stylish work environment. In fact, the occupiers of the building insist that the design, which includes an employee gym and café, has improved business efficiency and performance.

The largest office building in Reading, One Reading Central provides Yell with 153,000 sq ft of premium office accommodation over seven floors. In total, the ten storey BREEAM “Excellent” building comprises 218,800 sq ft of office space in Reading town centre.

When the building was opened last year it was hailed as a “symbol of the future”, transforming Reading’s skyline to provide ultra-modern office space in one of Berkshire’s most prominent business locations.

Richard Kauntze, Chief Executive of the BCO, commented: “This is the third year for the BCO regional awards and we’re excited to see the bar raised by this year’s entrants across both public and private sectors. The competition was fierce, with the South West proving that they are at the forefront of top quality sustainable design and functionality. We’re thrilled that developers continue to produce first class workspaces and it’s clear to see that the future is bright for offices in the region.”

Other awards went to offices in Cardiff, Salisbury, Bristol and Wallingford.
