Commercial Offices to Let in Lincoln & Serviced Office Space to Rent in Lincoln, Lincolnshire

Lincoln is a county town and cathedral city in Lincolnshire, England. It is located 45 miles southeast of Sheffield, 35 miles northeast of Nottingham and 34 miles southwest of Grimsby. The postcode is LN1-LN6 and the town has a population of approximately 85,600.

The earliest traces of settlement in the area are round woollen dwellings that have been dated to the 1st century BC. The town was named Lindon by the Celts, which is the Brythonic word for pool, referring to the modern Brayford Pool in Lincoln. This name was picked up by the Romans, who conquered this part of England in 48 AD and renamed the settlement Lindum Colonia. The settlement was accessible from the sea through the River Tent and the River Witham, which made the town a flourishing settlement and even the provincial capital of Flavia Caesariensis in the 4th century. Lincoln’s importance declined in the decades after that due to the decay of the waterways but rose to prominence again under the Viking rule. William the Conqueror ordered Lincoln Castle to be built in 1068 and Lincoln Cathedral was completed in 1092. Those were indicators of Lincoln’s prosperity, which was became obvious in 1150 when Lincoln became the wealthiest town in England. Later during the 13th century Lincoln was, as the 3rd largest town in England, the favourite of many kings. However, the plague, frequent flooding of the lower city and later the dissolution of the monasteries led to a decline of the city’s fortunes from the 14th century onwards. It began to strive again first during the agricultural and then the Industrial Revolution. The industry was focused on all kinds of heavy machinery until it shifted to war production during the world wars, when Lincoln became the place where the first tank ever was invented, designed and built. In post-war times, Lincoln’s heavy industry declined slightly but the city still had to build new suburbs to accommodate the growth in population.

Lincoln is located 34 miles southeast of Robin Hood Airport in Doncaster, which is the newest purpose built airport in the UK and is connected top over 40 destinations across the globe.
