Borough Serviced Offices for Rent & Commercial Office Space to Let in Borough, London
The Borough area, best known for its historic Borough Market, is located in the London Borough of Southwark at the southern end of London Bridge. The name Borough might appear a little confusing but in fact dates back to the time when the area was the only borough outside the limits of the City of London. Borough High Street is the main central thoroughfare and to its east is London Bridge Station and Guy’s Hospital founded in 1791. Today it is a large NHS teaching hospital and home to the King’s College London School of Medicine and Dentistry and is the second tallest hospital building in the world. To the west of Borough High Street is the Borough Market and Southwark Cathedral, the oldest cathedral church building in London.
The area is served directly by London Underground stations at Borough and London Bridge and mainline connections at London Bridge, Elephant & Castle and Blackfriars. The area also offers links to London City Airport and three other airports at Heathrow Airport, Luton Airport and Gatwick Airport. A comprehensive bus network provides access to all parts of London both north and south of the River Thames.
The retail environment is dominated by Borough Market sited under the railway viaduct and the market is supported by a variety of retail units both independent and high street names. Borough Market is one of London's oldest wholesale fruit and vegetable markets, established by Act of Parliament in 1756 and administered by 21 trustees who have to live in the local community though claiming existence in some form in Roman times. It covers an area of 4.5 acres. As with all produce markets Borough Market traditionally operated in the early hours of the morning leaving the surrounding streets quiet and empty during the day. The Market in its trade heyday was known as London's Larder as capital relied on Borough Market for its essential supplies. In addition to its historical trade activities, Borough Market is now fully reborn as a retail centre of excellence providing a wide range of high quality meat, fish, fruit, vegetables, delicatessen products, dairy goods, beers as well as wine, and is lauded by foodies and restaurateurs alike and a source of amazement to casual visitors. Borough is served by a number of restaurants, bars, cafes and boasts in the George Inn located on Borough High Street, London’s only remaining galleried coaching inn which is marked on the first map of Southwark produced around 1543.
Borough is perhaps less commercially orientated than the London Bridge area on the other side of The Thames but it is nevertheless able to offer many interesting commercial properties of varying age and size as it is well sited in terms of transport connections. Many of these offices are based in buildings of considerable historical interest which have been restored and converted for contemporary use. This interesting range of office space in Borough, SE1 is available to let on both conventional commercial lease terms as well as SE1 serviced offices available on flexible terms.
